Volunteer Experience

UC Davis Medical Center Burn Unit Nutrition Intern

At the UCDMC Firefighters' Burn ICU, I worked with dietetic assistants and nurses with gathering meal orders from burn recovery patients, and catered to their individual needs. My shifts were scheduled during the 2018 Camp Wildfire, so major assistance was needed in the ICU to help patients recover from serious life-threatening burns. I interacted with the patients as I cut up food if they were unable to serve themselves, in addition to making protein shakes that would boost their needed protein intake.

Cal Aggie Camp Cook and Counselor

Cal Aggie Camp is near and dear to my heart; every other summer, I volunteer to provide foster youth from the Sacramento area with a fun camping experience. One year I was a camp cook and worked with Whole Foods to create massive meal orders every breakfast, lunch, and dinner (field trips included!) and also led Nutrition Education activities in which the campers "created the rainbow" of fruits and vegetables they molded out of clay! Alzheimer's Buddies (ABUD)

Once a week I meet with my "Buddy" at Courtyard Healthcare center. During my visit, I interact with my buddy and other residents with Alzheimer's-- which requires more singing and dancing than expected! I understand the effect of nutrition on the entire lifespan, and joined ABUD to further my outreach with the elderly population.
